Ofer Cohen was born in 1961 in the Northern city of Haifa, Israel along the seashore of the Mediterranean sea. In 1979 he was drafted for three mandatory years in the Israeli Navy. In 1986 Ofer graduated the Italian RAI TV film school "Il Centro Per La Tecnica Cine - Televisiva" in Milan, Italy as a cinematographer.

While working in Italy as a Cameraman on various assignments in 1987 Ofer made a series of TV documentaries for RAI TV on the earthquake disaster in North Italy " A Road To Bormio ", " Christmas In Valtelina " and " Inside The Mountain ".

In 1988 Ofer moved back to Israel and shortly thereafter became a father, while in Israel he worked for the Israeli TV and other production companies.

In 1990 Ofer was the Director Of Photography for the documentary film "Shelter "- domestic violence in the holly land. During the 1991 Desert Storm War, Ofer worked as a cameraman for several foreign networks (ITV-UK, ZDR-Germany, RAI-Italy) covering Iraq's missile attack on Israel.

In 1991 Ofer moved with his family to The United States and worked as a Director of Photography for the New York City based production company Top Line Communications.

In 1994 Ofer collaborated with the French - Israeli documentary film maker, Amos Gitai on the documentaries " A political Road ", a four parts series telling the story of difficult negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians. The second collaboration was on "Kippur - Memoirs of War "Amos Gitai's memories of the 1973 Yom Kippur war.

In 1998 Ofer was the Co Director and Director Of Photography of the award wining documentary film " Traveling The Distance " the story of the Shinnecock Indian Tribe's 50th anniversary Pow Wow and its people. The film was featured on PBS and participated in numerous film festivals in the USA.

In 2000 Ofer was the Co Director and Director Of Photography of the documentary " The Nepal Dairies " a personal, physical and soul searching journey to the magical Himalayan kingdom of Nepal by a New York couple.

Starting in 2000 Ofer is the Director and Director Of Photography of the documentary "The Sugar connection" the intriguing story of the Trans-Atlantic sugar trade in the 17th century seen through the story of the Sylvester family of Shelter Island, New York. Where European settlers, Native Americans, and enslaved Africans lived and worked, crafting a piece of the New World.

From October through November 2001 Ofer Co created for Cablevision's News 12 a series of short stories called "Tribute to Our Heroes" commemorating the life of the fallen firefighters of September 11th.

In 2002 Ofer was the Co Director and Director Of Photography of the documentary "Ride On Brother " the story of six New York firefighters who lost ten members of their firehouse and two months later went on a three thousand miles Thank You America Bike Tour, aired on PBS National on the Sep. 11th anniversary and throughout the year.
